Originally launched back in 2014, the Explore Thames app was created as an interactive guide to promote local members’ businesses and ease journey planning for all river users—covering the Thames from source to barrier.
In 2016 at Sonin, we worked closely with British Marine Thames Valley to redesign the app and relaunch with their new phase of rebranding. Taking inspiration from their in-house guidelines, I created a few key screens to completely overhaul and modernise the UI. By removing unnecessary clutter, gradients and skeuomorphic elements, the full designs were visibly brighter and cleaner which aided user interaction.
The app was especially received well by BMTV, boat owners and river users, and gained an increase in app store views which led to a 90% increase in downloads.
