The Explore Thames app is an interactive guide to provide visitors of the River Thames with personalised sugestions of activities and attractions, in addition to promoting local businesses and ease journey planning for all river users.
With a significant drop-off in usage, we worked closely with British Marine Thames Valley to understand how we could reconnect users and improve their experience. Through interviews we found that people wanted tailored recommendations based on their interests so we implemented a preference selection during the onboarding stage, and created a database of activities and local ammenities that users could add to with their own contributions.
Updating the userflow with low fidelity wireframes, I also created the redesign of their existing app to relaunch alongside a new phase of rebranding. By stripping away unnecessary noise and friction, the UI was designed to be easier for users to find or add content, making it more accessible and increasing engagement.
The app tested well with a closed group of BMTV, and gained an increase in app store views leading to an overwhelming 90% increase in downloads.
